The most beautiful hike in Switzerland

Switzerland is known for its stunning natural beauty and is considered one of the most beautiful countries in the world. So, when we were planning our trip, we decided to focus on exploring the outdoors. We planned a few hikes during our stay in Switzerland, and one of the top-rated hikes is located just outside Lucerne—it’s called the Lake Oeschinensee Loop.

We rented a car so we could drive to the hike and enjoy the scenic route along the way. However, the day before we were scheduled to go, the weather forecast showed rain and clouds, which would likely make the hike difficult and possibly not worth the effort. We debated back and forth but ultimately decided to go anyway. After all, we had already rented the car, and who knows, the weather might change.

We set off early for the hour-long drive, and the weather started off super foggy and rainy, which dampened our excitement. But as we got closer, the sky began to clear and turn blue. The views along the drive were amazing, which lifted our spirits and made us eager to start the hike. When we finally arrived, the weather was nearly perfect, though it was still a little chilly. We packed our backpack with lunch, snacks, and, of course, water. To get to the start of the hike, we had to take a gondola halfway up the mountain. As we ascended, the clouds started to fill the sky again, but we were determined, and there was no turning back now.

We started the hike, passing through the woods and crossing small creeks and rivers. There were quite a few people around us at first, but as we hiked, the crowd began to thin out. When the sky cleared, we started to catch glimpses of the pastel blue lake through the trees, and the wildflowers became even more vibrant. We stopped frequently to take pictures and document our progress.

About an hour later, we made it to the top, where we were greeted with the most breathtaking view: the lake, waterfalls, the greenest grass, the most colorful wildflowers, and the brightest blue sky. We took lots of pictures before sitting down to enjoy our lunch, basking in the view and the sunshine. It felt like we were sitting in front of a green screen—I couldn’t believe such beauty could exist.

One of the key moments of the hike was when I was talking to Mark about how something so simple could be so captivating. Mark responded with a Bible verse: “If God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you.” (Matthew 6:30). It really made me reflect on the beauty of everything on this earth and how lucky I am to experience it all.

We continued on our hike, constantly encountering more beautiful views, waterfalls, and rivers. Eventually, we even came across some cows, which were so adorable! There are people who live off this land and farm here. They let their cows out during the day, and the cows greet all the hikers. It was such a delightful surprise on top of the already stunning scenery.

We made our way through the hike, taking lots of pictures and videos, until we eventually reached the bottom of the lake and then the end of the trail. It took us about four hours to complete the hike, and every minute was perfect. I’m so glad we didn’t skip this hike and decided to go despite the weather forecast. We were so thankful for the perfect weather, and I hope we can visit Switzerland again to see more of this beautiful country—and probably do this hike again.
